Upcoming Week 1/28-1/31

I hope you enjoyed your extra day off today. I'm working at home and am trying to be productive in the midst of all the distractions! One update I have for you is that we have a Teaching Academy intern from Newport High School working in our room for the remainder of the year. Miss Lainey is a senior at Newport and was in my class in third grade! She asked to come back and explore the possibility of a career in teaching, so of course, I couldn't say no. She is a huge asset to our classroom and the students have welcomed her with open arms, as I knew they would. :)

Upcoming Week 1/21-1/24

We're having a redo of last week! All that snow last week put our weekly plans on hold, including the Martin Luther King assembly. So, take two! Let's try it again! :) (See last week's post for specifics on what we'll be doing in the week ahead.)

Upcoming Week 1/13-1/17

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful break and enjoyed the holiday season with your families. I enjoyed a lot of quiet time and stayed in my pajamas all day more often than I'd like to admit. I was so happy to see the smiling faces of the kiddos this week. I missed them over the break, and was especially sad that I didn't get to say goodbye to them because of the unexpected flood! We picked up where we left off before break and are moving on as we get back into the swing of early mornings and long school days. Here's what's coming up this week.

In addition to all the curriculum above, we're also working on writing in cursive as much as possible. While we still have a handful of letters left, we've learned enough that there are many, many words we are capable of writing. Please encourage cursive writing at home, too!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Cheer loud for the Seahawks this weekend, so they'll hear us all the way in Green Bay!

Cheers!

Upcoming Week 11/25-11/29

Every year in the month of December, I do a unit of study about Winter Holidays Around the World. I teach the kids about many different things that are celebrated during the winter time, other than Christmas (since they usually know about that!). This year, I'm asking for your help. Do you celebrate something other than Christmas during the winter? Would you be willing and able to come in to teach the kids about it? I think this would be much more meaningful to them, rather than me standing up there and telling them information about these other holidays. You could bring in artifacts, foods, clothes, books or stories, and any other ideas you have. Some holidays I've taught them about in the past include Three Kings Day, Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Lucia Day, Chinese New Year, and Boxing Day, to name a few. I work hard to keep the religious aspect out of it, though we do talk about which religions celebrate, if it's a religious holiday. Please email me ASAP if you are able to help us with this. :) Thank you!

This week will mostly be spent finishing up learning from last week. Our literacy activities were stretched from last week into this one, so there will be no new spelling. We're also finishing up our math unit, with the Unit test on Tuesday. Read on for other important information.

Important Dates

  • Thursday and Friday - No School - Thanksgiving Holiday
  • Friday - Apple Cup - Go Huskies!
Curriculum Coming Up

Reading
  • Continued from last week
Writing
  • Thanksgiving Acrostic Poem
Math
  • Unit 1 Review and Test
Social Studies
  • Geography of Different Communities
    • Physical Features
    • Climate
    • Natural Resources
However or if you celebrate this week, I hope you enjoy the time off with family and loved ones. When we come back after the weekend, it'll be December! I am in complete shock that time is flying by so quickly! Cheers to you and yours!
